We’ve migrated

8 02 2010

It had to happen at some point. Jumping ship seems to be a matter of process these days as new shiny things come along and take our attention. And yes, we’re just as sucked into this stuff as you, the loyal XLogic Blog reader, are.

We’ve started Tweeting. No, we’re not eating millet, and as yet nobody in the team has started picking fights with their own reflection. We’ve got a Twitter page. And boy, are we going to use it. We promise to have more updates, interesting links, but probably fewer blatent flights of fancy – after all I can’t imagine how I’ll curtail my mind-wandering ideas into 160 characters…

SSL’s video team get christmassy

18 12 2009

Not only does SSL make audio products, we also make video products. Our MediaWan team make a product called Gravity that is installed into major broadcast institutions for upload/encode/edit and other types of video-related editing stuff. Excuse my lack of further detail, but hey – I’m an audio guy…

Anyway, we stumbled across this video on YouTube showing their office in full on festive mood… http://www.youtube.com/user/Yaklulu#p/a/u/0/FNivgcQl-pA Let us know if your tree is as aptly decorated

Richard in the snow too…

17 12 2009

I too had the pleasure of spending last week in Moscow. Despite being around -5C for most of the week and 6 inches of freshly fallen snow, I received a very warm welcome from the guys who attended our two seminars. Seminar 1 took place at a small convention centre in the city centre focussing primarily on the X-Desk and MX4. Seminar 2 took place at the studio of Moscow rockers Deform where visitors were able to take part in a small acoustic tracking and mix session using the recently installed Matrix and X-Racks. Many thanks to Andrey Ivanov of our Moscow based distributors 4Sonic and to the guys at Deform for their warm welcome and allowing us to take over their studio. Deform’s website can be found at www.deform.name We’ll be back next Spring for more workshops in this beautiful city.

Rules of good design

15 12 2009

Knowing that the loyal XLogic blog reader is well-versed in comtemporary design principles, I’m sure you are all aware of the designer Dieter Rams. If not, look him up on Wikipedia or Google for images of his ground-breaking work and his 10 rules of good design http://www.vitsoe.com/en/gb/about/dieterrams/gooddesign. It is well documented that he has been a significant influence on Johnatan Ive and it is easy to see how this manifests itself in Apple’s products (which do bear more than a passing resemblance to some of the Braun products that Rams designed). However, following a trip to Russia it seems that his message has reached one of the giants of production – Mosfilm. Pictured below is our Analogue Product Manager, Dr Sore Wetmam, doing a training session in the Duality room at Mosfilm. Some may say this looks Kubrick-inspired, some may say more Ikea, but those in the design know this room is obviously an homage to Dieter Rams.

Great night out in NY

14 12 2009

We had a great night at the Kampo Cultural centre last week with the tram from Alto Music and around 100 guests for our panel discussion. Topic covered ranged from how to survive in the studio business, how to market your business, and the merits of unpasteurised cheeses (!). Many thanks to all of you who joined us. For those who didn’t, look out for more events next year…

X-Desk video demos from RockOn

10 12 2009

On my recent trip to Tokyo I did some videos for RockON, and they have now uploaded them to their YouTube channel…

Visit http://www.youtube.com/user/RockoNCompany to see them, and all of the other Videos RockOn have made for their customers. As RockOn are based in Tokyo, do not be surprised when the person is not always speaking English!

And if you’ve not had enough of us yet, another event in NY next week!

SSL at Full Sail

3 12 2009

The seminar at Full Sail this week went really well. Our US Sales Manager, Fadi Hayek, gave a presentation about our SuperAnalogue design philosophy and analogue summing demonstrataions. Thanks to everyone who came to visit and got the chance to look around Timbaland’s new studio tourbus – watch out for a video of this in the coming weeks…

Come and see Timbaland’s tourbus!

27 11 2009

Loyal XLogic blog readers will already know that Timbaland purchased a big Matrix and X-Rack setup for his new tourbus (see here https://solidstatelogic.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/watch-the-timbaland-video/ for more info and the video interview). However, with many thanks to Timbaland’s team, we have got access for you to visit the tourbus yourself! SSL is always keen to bring “money-can’t-buy” experiences for our users so the below event at Full Sail in Florida next week is one of those chances! RSVP if you’d like to attend – places will go fast….

Interview at Ikebe Power Rec Tokyo – by Jim

25 11 2009

Yesterday I visited Ikebe Power Rec in Shibuya, Tokyo, to do an interview for their website about Matrix (look out for that next week). Nestled at the back of the well-stocked demo area you can find SSL consoles of all sizes – X-Desk, Matrix, and also AWS900! Mr Aoki from Power Rec asked the questions and I was helped with translation by the SSL Japan team of the lovely Miss Masumoto and the rockabilly Mr Suzuki. Here are some pictures from the store, and a group photo of everyone at the Matrix. After the interview we all went for an excellent dinner, and lots of Sake 🙂 I am looking forward to my next visit to Japan – the people are so friendly and the food is so good!
